44 year old Hispanic male is an avid runner and triathlete, but has been noticing significant pain in his right foot for a year, despite taking strong anti-inflammatories and taking 3 months off running. MRI showed severe tear of the ligaments around the second metatarsal. Patient saw 2 podiatrists and both recommended surgery. However, patient was very concerned about the potentially long and difficult recovery from surgery, and the fact that it would change the structure and shape of his foot. He wanted to seek alternative treatments to accelerate healing, and was given stem cell therapy via intravenous route only, and daily ultrasound activation locally to attract more cells to the injured area. Within less than 3 months after the treatment, patient’s foot was fully healed, and was able to resume daily running and participate in an Ironman race.
